The Hero's Heart Health Kit
A preventive and informative tool to save the world, one child at a time: The Hero's Heart Health Kit. This paper discusses the creator of the heart kit, the reason for the creation of the kit, and what the kit consists of. The origin of creating a heart kit for children to learn about their health came to mind during my cardiology mentorship. In the Independent Study Mentorship class for my senior year at Clear Horizons Early College High School, I decided to pursue cardiology for two reasons: more knowledge to select my college major and because of my interest in a career that involves interacting with people.
Growing up, learning about accounting always piqued my interest because knowledge from accounting comes of use regardless of the field one enters. However, my desire to enter a field that allows more interaction with people alongside life-long valuable information urged me to investigate medicine. My mentorship with a cardiologist, Dr. Dharmashankar, gives me more knowledge about the education I will need and the career field of medicine, adding ease in the decision-making of my college major between finance and biochemistry.
Family is a word defining not only biological but also close relationships built throughout someone's life journey. Wanting a family in the future is a key part of my life. I choose to do good not only because of God but also due to my desire for children who will, hopefully, look up to me. Role modeling a life well lived and deeds well done for my future children are chiefly important. As every other generation precedes the one before it, the children of this generation will precede them and go on to define the health and education of our country and further our world. Thus, for my final product, an item that aims to improve the overall health of the youth seemed fitting.
The heart kit I want to create aims to lessen the amount of heart problems in the future. This heart kit will consist of a stress-relief item, a 3-D model of a realistic heart, a stethoscope to listen to one's heart rate, an education activity, and the Hero's Heart Hacks book. The book contains information regarding exercises and foods that prevent or aid certain heart problems.
To create my product, I will primarily research the major heart diseases to incorporate into the Hero's Heart Hacks book. Then, with the help of the Canva platform, the book will be put together with many images. The education activity will likely also require the use of Canva software. The stethoscope and the stress-relief item will likely be bought. I must research what platform has the best quality item at a fair price. Later, I will use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) modeling to create a 3-D model of a realistic heart. After animation, the 3-D model will be printed at the San Jacinto College Engineering Building. Once all the items are collected, I will customize a box digitally and have it printed or use a box I already have and decorate it manually. I will complete all the steps by the end of Thanksgiving break. The day I meet with my mentor after Thanksgiving break, my mentor will review the product one last time and provide feedback for me to make any necessary changes.
Ultimately, I hope my product will become a source of interactive education for the younger generation and help remove the possibility of heart disease victims worldwide. This change will begin with the population of the United States of America, where heart disease is the highest cause of death. We must push the youth toward change to fix the American standard of health because each heartbeat matters.
