Lessons

Dedication and passion are the core of Dr. Dharmashankar's career. Every day I work with my mentor, it is evident that he enjoys his job and personal life because he is attentive and immersed in his environment. His enjoyment is displayed by his constant smile throughout his work day and the many conversations he immerses in.
His dedication is exhibited by his efforts to maintain updated knowledge of medical technologies and methods. Aside from constantly learning about cardiology, he decided to invest further time in the field by joining other doctors to create a personal practice. The establishment and continuation of the personal practice takes more of his time than just working at a hospital, but he wouldn't have it any other way because it allows him to be more involved in what he loves.
His passion is revealed through his interactions with patients and his colleagues. He is articulate about the way he writes procedures and test results. His attentiveness is why his empathy is shown to patients, and he fills the room with a smile even when the topic is serious. After completing observations, he discusses components of the charts he noticed and explains concepts that may be difficult to understand.
Whether I go into medicine as a career or major in college, I can still benefit from building dedication and passion in any field. The patients and colleagues I work with will require me to be attentive and articulate in what I say and do. My career field should interest me and encourage me to learn more and take bigger steps forward. I know these characteristics will benefit me; after all, dedication and passion are the core of Dr. Dharmashankar's enjoyable career.
