The most surprising aspect of my mentorship was seeing immense collaboration and learning. Such came off as a surprise because I had assumed one must be a know-it-all to be a doctor. However, the truth is that one can continue to learn daily with others.

Outside the mentorship meetings, Dr. Dharmashankar has many responsibilities for his family and the hospital. However, there were three main tasks he attended to at the mentorship site: reviewing charts, meeting patients, and updating the patient's medical notes.

Since the beginning of my mentorship, I have gotten to learn a lot and build new skills. There are three main skills I believe are applicable in my future, regardless of the career I go into. These skills are simplifying information, conversation being conversational, and being somewhat artistic.

Dedication and passion are the core of Dr. Dharmashankar's career. Every day I work with my mentor, it is evident that he enjoys his job and personal life because he is attentive and immersed in his environment. His enjoyment is displayed by his constant smile throughout his work day and the many conversations he immerses in.

After researching the different types of cardiologists, I knew I wanted to become a pediatric cardiologist. Educating children towards healthy lives is the best preventative method to prevent cardiac diseases and problems from continuing to be the number one health issue in the United States of America. Cardiology is the field I am most interested in regarding medicine. Having done an internship directly influences my decision-making for my long-term education and career goals because it educates me about what cardiology would be like as a career.

Since the beginning of my mentorship, I have aimed to build good relationships with my mentor, his co-workers, and the patients. Getting to know new people is one of the best gifts of life, and I was naturally inclined to do so. However, my anxiety at my mentorship, due to feeling unfit, was a blockade to interactions.

The environment of my mentor's workplace is both peaceful and hectic.

After my call with Dr. Dharmashankar ended, I felt relieved by his excitement and willingness to have me as his intern. I wanted to pursue an internship in cardiology, and Dr. Dharma, an interventional cardiologist with a history of teaching many other interns, seemed to be the best fit.
